There were days in the past few months when cabbage was at 65 rs, carrot at 80-90 rs, onions at 80-90 rs. Lauki sold for 35 rs. In the past few days, vegetable rates have come down drastically. They have reached pre-lockdown normals. This morning, Lauki/Sorakayi was available at 10 rs. Carrots are still at high but other vegetable rates have come down.
Rains also contributed to greens missing from market for several days but they are back now in full freshness. There are more vegetable vendors than earlier in the market these days. Many lost their jobs during lockdown and switched to vegetables. Hence there are more people selling vegetables than the traditional vegetable sellers. Apart from the farmers markets, there are hawkers moving around homes apart from private vegetable vendors.
Fruits consumption has also gone up due to increased concern about immunity. Dry Fruits have also witnessed huge pickup in demand since lockdown started. Concerns over Covid will ensure that this trend continues for atleast two more years.
