Andhra Pradesh Government will be shifting executive capital to Vishakapatnam and retain legislative capital at Amaravati. The bill for the same has been approved by Andhra Pradesh Governor. It still has to pass legal hurdles from high court. It is known that opposition has filed cases before high court and they are pending hearing. Also, high court has shown reluctance to move to Kurnool since it has already moved from Hyderabad to Amaravati.
Vishakapatnam with its sea coast is also the headquarters of Eastern Naval Command. Vishakapatnam has one of the largest cargo handling facility in India. Steel Plant has 17000 employees. With a GDP of $43Bn, it is the 9th richest city in India. Service Sector is accounting for 50%+ of Vizag's economy currently.
