Lack of Public Health Infrastructure is affecting government in disaster times. Government of Andhra Pradesh introduced Arogyasri during YSR time by which anyone could take treatment in private hospitals without any worry at government's cost. Instead of enriching government infrastructure in public healthcare, the congress government took the step of helping private hospitals grow phenominally.
Private hospitals have been exploiting the situation recommending surgery and operations even for small ailments for recovering cost from government scheme. Hospitals have grown richer but public health remained poorer.
With these schemes, public health was further ignored. Similar schemes were proposed by centre which further allowed private sector to dictate terms to the government. Government public health infrastructure is so weak that despite having the need to strengthening it, governments have bypassed it.
As they are seeing in Corona lockdown period, they rue not having a strong public health infrastructure system. Developed countries have the advantage of having strong public health infrastructure& ever ready for disasters.
